The Panthers declined to pick up Wright's 2020 option, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Wright signed a three-year deal with the Panthers in March of 2018, but he'll become a free agent March 16, saving the team $6 million against the salary cap. The 30-year-old slot receiver produced sparingly in 2019, as he never generated more than 60 receiving yards in a game and finished with 28 catches for 296 yards and no touchdowns.

After the worst full season of his six-year career, Wright signed with the Panthers last offseason with hopes that being reunited with Norv Turner would reinvigorate his game. Sure enough, like their time together with the Vikings, Turner utilized Wright to complement his passing game from the slot position, resulting in 43 catches on 59 targets for 447 yards and one touchdown. That gave the 29-year-old a new personal best in receptions, while the target and yardage totals were second for his career. Although Wright can be proud of those accomplishments, his stock overall is restricted by his role as a possession wideout in an offense fueled by Christian McCaffrey, D.J. Moore, Curtis Samuel and (when healthy) Greg Olsen. With Chris Hogan also around this year, Wright has even more competition, but his familiarity with Turner's scheme should continue to work in his favor.
Wright is reunited with former offensive coordinator Norv Turner in Carolina after spending the first six seasons of his career with the Vikings. Although he doesn't figure to occupy a very prominent role, Wright's experience under Turner should make him a solid depth option for the Panthers.
Wright's 2016 campaign got off to a rough start due to a hamstring injury that kept him sidelined for three of the Vikings' first four games, and his role remained extremely limited throughout the rest of the season. He failed to record even 75 total receiving yards in eight appearances overall, and additional volume will be hard to come by in 2017 as the team rosters at least four receivers cemented above Wright on the depth chart. If Laquon Treadwell and/or newcomer Michael Floyd suffer injuries, Wright could see additional work out of the slot, but he possesses little fantasy relevance at the moment.
With the addition of first-round pick Laquon Treadwell and the departure of deep-threat Mike Wallace, Wright figures to once again serve as a third or fourth option in the Vikings' receiving corps, likely getting most of his work out of the slot. He won't catch many passes downfield and doesn't offer much upside in a run-heavy offense, but Wright has proven to be an efficient chain-mover for Minnesota on third downs. If Treadwell, Stefon Diggs or TE Kyle Rudolph were to suffer a long-term injury, Wright might be needed in a larger role. Otherwise, he's unlikely to eclipse last year's production by a significant margin.
Wright will likely reprise his role as the No. 4 receiver. He's been productive in stretches (two 100-yard games) and effective running reverses, but the Vikings don't use four-receiver sets often, limiting his upside. However, Wright has shown the ability to get behind the defense, and could continue to produce an occasional big game.
Wright is firmly stuck as the no. 4 receiver on the Vikings' depth chart, and even with an improved offensive outlook in 2014 thanks to Norv Turner and competent quarterbacking from Matt Cassel and/or first round pick Teddy Bridgewater, that's not a role likely to generate a lot of targets.
Wright posted 22 receptions for 310 yards and two touchdowns in seven games as a rookie last season. He is expected to serve as the Vikings' fourth receiver in 2013.
Wright, a fourth-round 2012 draft pick, will likely be a reserve receiver and may not get many snaps on offense this season. However, he could emerge with a significant special teams role as either a punt or kickoff returner.
