ANALYSIS
Davis was a longshot to make the roster since all three starting wide receivers returned for 2020 in addition to rookie fifth-round pick Quintez Cephus. The 28-year-old played seven games for the Chargers last year and had a minimal impact. He'll look to find a depth role elsewhere before the season commences.

Despite a decent opportunity to claim the Chargers' No. 3 role at wide receiver last year, Davis yet again failed to log more than 100 offensive snaps and most of his contributions ultimately came on special teams. Now in Detroit where Kenny Golladay, Marvin Jones and Danny Amendola are near immovable objects at the top of the depth chart, Davis won't have the same opportunity as he did last year, and he's probably less likely then each of Marvin Hall, Quintez Cephus and Jamal Agnew to earn one of the available depth roles at the position.
Davis only registered 76 offensive snaps in 2018 despite being active for 14 games, but the 27-year-old will now have an opportunity to compete for the team's No. 3 wideout gig with Travis Benjamin, Dylan Cantrell, Artavis Scott and Andre Patton. He's not favored to claim the role, but there is, in any case, potential for a degree of fantasy utility in that void, which was created by the offseason departure of Tyrell Williams.
Davis has been on the Chargers' 53-man roster bubble for what has felt like his entire career. Primarily a special teams player, the 26-year-old has appeared in five games the past two seasons which evidently was enough to warrant a two-year contract extension. While the new contract doesn’t guarantee he’ll make the final roster this go around, the fourth-year WR does have a leg up when it comes to experience – something head coach Anthony Lynn has noted repeatedly throughout the offseason.
Davis managed to see the field last season for the Chargers' as the team was beset by injuries, receiving two targets across the final three games. At 6'2'', 217 pounds, Davis is a big body who is capable of shielding off defenders when going up to get the ball. But with multiple physical receivers already on the depth chart, Davis may struggle to find a role on the roster.
Davis has excellent size, but he's slow and not especially shifty. He saw 15 offensive snaps his entire rookie year, despite the Giants often being thin at receiver. He's worked hard this offseason on his quickness and route running, but he's no lock to make the team's final roster.
A sixth-round pick in this year’s draft, the 6-foot-3, 216-pound Davis showed above average marks in all athletic testing and was fairly productive at Connecticut despite the team's horrendous quarterback play. He’ll battle Dwayne Harris and Preston Parker for targets behind the Giants’ top three receivers, assuming he makes the team out of training camp.
