ANALYSIS
The Super Bowl 50 champion hasn't played since 2019, when he appeared in 13 games with the Buccaneers, but he's now made his retirement official. The one-time Pro Bowler (2016) earned his Super Bowl ring with the Panthers, and he also played for the Ravens and Rams.

Just over two years after leading the Broncos to a Super Bowl victory, Chris Harris and Stewart represent the only remaining elder statesmen of the No Fly Zone. The Broncos' safety room is getting younger with the emergence of Justin Simmons and Will Parks and acquisition of Sua'a Cravens, but Stewart remains a valuable asset playing center field in the Broncos' press-man scheme. He's led the team with three interceptions in each of the past two seasons.
Stewart was a key piece of the Broncos' top-notch defense in 2016, racking up a career-high three interceptions and one forced fumble while making 68 tackles in 16 games. His snap count increased by nearly 250 snaps from 2015 to 2016, and he earned a four-year extension worth $28 million in the process. The veteran will continue to serve as Denver's go-to free safety, with little competition for playing time behind him.
Like many of the Broncos' defenders, Stewart saved his best play for the playoffs. The centerfielder generated a modest two turnovers in 2015, but nabbed a pick in the AFC title game and forced a fumble in Super Bowl 50. Stewart returns to the No Fly Zone in a contract year looking to impress the league's other 31 teams. He will be a free agent next offseason and Denver drafted Justin Simmons and Will Parks in 2016 to, presumably, replace him.
Stewart is expected to compete with third-round rookie Terrence Brooks for the starting job at free safety.
Stewart is expected to open training camp as the Rams' starting strong safety.
Stewart is not guaranteed a starting role, but he was productive at free safety when he did start a year ago and would deserve a major boost if he could be guaranteed 16 starts (or 12, for that matter.) He finished 2011 with 84 tackles (67 solo) in 15 games – 13 starts. He also chipped in three sacks, an interception (which he returned for a touchdown), 11 passes defended and two forced fumbles. Craig Dahl also produced in the role in 2010, so keep an eye on both and pick the starter to find a good bargain.
Could end up as the club's starting free safety but more likely to be a key special team's contributor and primary backup to last year's starter James Butler.
