Corey Liuget

Liuget didn't record a sack in 2016, the first time the 27-year-old hasn't logged at least one over his six-year career, but the defensive end is still a formidable pass rusher when given the opportunity. With Joey Bosa on the opposite end, Liuget will once again take a back seat to the newcomer, meaning IDP should only project Liuget as a low-end DL2 candidate.

Liuget suffered a season-ending foot injury last year and underwent arthroscopic knee surgery in the offseason, but he should be ready before Week 1. When healthy, Liuget is one of the better interior linemen in the league, demonstrating the ability to approach 60 tackles and seven sacks at separate points. Heading into his age-26 season with third overall pick Joey Bosa providing additional heat on the other side, Liuget might finally approach 60 tackles and seven sacks in the same season. Even so, he likely maxes out as a low-end DL2.

Liuget is the Chargers most dependable defensive lineman and has averaged 50 tackles per season over the last three years. He lead the Bolts with 4.5 sacks and 19 tackles for a loss in 2014 and will be looking for more of the same this year.

Despite playing the entire 2013 season with a torn labrum, Liuget managed to start every game and racked up an impressive 42 tackles and 5.5 sacks. He is looking to make an even bigger impact in 2014.

Liuget made huge strides in his second season as a pro last year, notching 51 tackles and seven sacks. Heading into 2013, the Chargers are hoping he continues to improve on those numbers as the starter at one end spot.

Liuget will start at left defensive end in 2012, but the Charges will likely mix in Jacques Cesaire as well. Liuget's upside is fairly limited, however, as he only managed a total of 19 tackles and one sack in 2011 despite starting 13 games.

While head coach Norv Turner is hesitant to call his rookie pass-rusher the new starter at defensive end, but most everyone in San Diego believes that Liuget's performance on the field will make that a reality sooner rather than later. The Chargers' pass rush has left something to be desired these past few seasons, and they drafted Liuget with the hope that he can help create some pressure from the end, and that his presence will command some double teams, thereby creating more opportunities for the linebackers.
