Volson has won the Bengals' starting left guard job to begin the season, Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com reports. "He ascended the whole training camp period. He played well, practiced well," said offensive coordinator Brian Callahan. "He continually got better. He showed the things we want to see from a starting guard for us. He's tough, he's physical, he's dependable...He's earned that job."

Though the 6-foot-6, 315-pound lineman may not be the favorite to start at left guard Week 1, Cincinnati is certainly incentivized to look for improvement at the position after Jackson Carman, Hakeem Adeniji and D'Ante Smith struggled last season. One hurdle, however, could be the fact that Volson played tackle in college, and he will now have to adjust to new positional intricacies.
