After spending the last two seasons in Denver, Callahan joined the Chargers and will likely serve as the primary slot cornerback for Los Angeles in 2022. Callahan is one of the best in the business when it comes to covering the inside, but he's failed to play any more than 13 games in a single season during his six-year NFL career. If the veteran cornerback can figure out a way to stay on the field, expect this Chargers secondary to be one of the best across the entire league thanks in part to the addition of Pro Bowler J.C. Jackson.
Though an injury cut his season short in 2020, Callahan was playing at a very high level. The veteran totaled 42 tackles, five pass breakups, two interceptions, and one fumble recovery in just 10 games last season. Entering the 2021 campaign, Callahan finds himself in a much more crowded defensive backfield, with free agent acquisitions Kyle Fuller and Ronald Darby. Additionally, the Broncos selected Patrick Surtain ninth overall in this year's draft. Coach Vic Fangio will look to get Callahan involved in the defense, even though his playing time may take a hit.
A broken foot cost Callahan the final three games of 2018 and, potentially, millions of dollars in free agency before Denver scooped him up on a team-friendly three-year pact. Callahan has picked off two passes in each of the past two seasons and is the defender most familiar with head coach Vic Fangio's scheme, having followed him from Chicago. That familiarity, along with some overlapping skillsets with new teammates Chris Harris and Kareem Jackson, could lead to a larger role in Denver than he had in Chicago. Look for Callahan to still mostly stick in the slot, but to venture outside more, depending on matchups, than he did with the Bears.
Callahan went undrafted following a productive career at Rice, where his 13 career interceptions rank second in school history. The 5-foot-10 cornerback will look to contend for a spot on the Bears' practice squad during training camp.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Viable option on open market
CBFree Agent
May 4, 2023
Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com suggests Callahan is one of the top remaining defensive players remaining on the open market.
ANALYSIS
The veteran cornerback finally remained relatively healthy in 2022 with the Chargers after missing all of 2019 and playing just 21 of a possible 33 games in the subsequent pair of seasons. Rosenthal points out Callahan turned in an impressive body of work over 15 games in Los Angeles while operating out of the slot, and the numbers largely back up that assertion -- he recorded a career-high 47 tackles and three interceptions, including a pick-six, while defending three additional passes.
