August 19, 2024
The Panthers placed Brown (thumb) on injured reserve Monday, Darin Gantt of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Brown left Saturday's 15-12 preseason loss to the Jets with a thumb issue, and it now appears that the injury has landed him on IR. The 30-year-old cornerback was likely fighting for a depth role in the Panthers' secondary, but he'll now be forced to miss all of 2024 unless he and Carolina reach an injury settlement at some point this season.

Brown posted career highs in tackles (71), interceptions (three) and passes defended (17) in 2021 while starting 16 games, giving the Cowboys solid play opposite Trevon Diggs. The veteran corner is heading into the final year of his contract and could be challenged by second-year player Kelvin Joseph, but if Brown retains his starting job he again should be able to post decent numbers, especially if Diggs takes another step forward and the opposition begins shying away from challenging him.
Brown once again was limited by injuries last year and has missed 13 games total over the last two seasons. He made an occasional impact when healthy, however, including scoring his first career touchdown. The Cowboys' selection of Kelvin Joseph in the second round of the 2021 Draft represents a threat to Brown's usage, as neither Trevon Diggs nor Jourdan Lewis seem likely to lose their roles. But Brown still should see a starter's workload in the early going unless Joseph proves he's ready more quickly than expected.
Brown played only nine games in 2019 due to a torn triceps, recording 17 tackles and failing to secure at least one sack or INT for the first time in four NFL campaigns. Byron Jones' departure opens up starting snaps in the Dallas secondary, but second-round pick Trevon Diggs will get the first chance to claim them, likely leaving Brown in a depth role once again.
Heading into his fourth NFL season, Brown has cemented his place as a useful depth corner for the Cowboys behind more talented teammates like Byron Jones and Chidobe Awuzie, but his skills and abilities are stretched if he gets pressed into a starting role.
The 2016 sixth-round pick put together another solid campaign last year, recording 56 tackles and two INTs while also picking up his first career sack. Brown isn't going to be mistaken for a shut-down corner, but he's proven to be useful in nickel and dime packages and can step in to a larger role when injuries hit the depth chart above him. Byron Jones' shift to corner adds one more player in front of him, however, and could end up costing him snaps in 2018.
An unheralded sixth-round pick in the 2016 draft, injuries and ineffective play in the Dallas secondary forced Brown to take on a much larger role than anticipated as a rookie and he thrived with the extra responsibility, finishing the year with 55 tackles and eight passes defended while getting better as the season progressed. With the Cowboys in the process of rebuilding the entire back end of their defense, Brown should be a key figure in that rebuild over the next few seasons.

Interest from Jets
CBFree Agent
August 21, 2023
Brown worked out for the Jets on Monday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The veteran cornerback spent the first seven seasons of his career in Dallas, and as recently as 2021, Brown recorded 71 tackles and three interceptions over 16 games. After suffering an Achilles injury in Week 13 last year, however, the 29-year-old was released. If he's fully recovered, Brown could provide some valuable depth in the Jets secondary behind Sauce Gardner, D.J. Reed and Michael Carter.
