Rest-of-Season Projections
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Moss' career seemed to burn out in Buffalo, but once he got to Indianapolis the former Utah standout and 2020 third-round pick started to look more like the player the Bills thought they were drafting. In Moss' 22 games with Indianapolis, he turned 259 carries into 1,159 yards (4.5 YPC), adding 31 receptions for 204 yards and two scores on 42 targets. Injuries have struck Moss in each of his four NFL seasons, and he had knee concerns even when he was at Utah in college, so he might have season-long volume limitations despite his power-back aesthetic. On the other hand, Moss is a three-down back in terms of skill set -- he's comfortable catching passes or blocking -- and doesn't need to rotate out for strategic reasons. It's not clear how much leeway Moss' two-year, $8 million contract might earn him over second-year back Chase Brown, but it seems likely that the Bengals will need to call upon both runners over the course of 2024. Lands on IR
The Bengals placed Moss (neck) on injured reserve Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Moss's move to IR was fully expected after Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported earlier Tuesday that the running back was expected to be shut down for the next two months to recover from a neck injury. While Moss will miss the rest of the regular season, he won't need surgery to address the injury and could return at some point in the playoffs, should the Bengals qualify. In anticipation of Moss's absence, the Bengals acquired Khalil Herbert from the Bears on Tuesday to bolster their backfield depth behind Chase Brown, who is expected to take over as Cincinnati's clear lead back the rest of the way.

Moss will compete with rookie fifth-round pick Evan Hull and Deon Jackson for the privilege of backing up Jonathan Taylor this season. Moss entered training camp as the favorite as both the incumbent and the player with greater draft pedigree -- a 2020 third-round pick -- but he's now uncertain for Week 1 after suffering a broken arm at the end of July. Furthermore, Hull is no pushover and has plenty of pass-catching experience after serving as the workhorse at Northwestern. Moss did much better in his eight-game audition with Indianapolis last year than he did in the two prior seasons with Buffalo, playing well in a four-game stint as starter following Taylor's season-ending ankle injury, and it's worth remembering that Moss was probably a better player at Utah than Hull was at Northwestern. That said, Hull is faster and quicker than Moss, which could lead to a co-backup sort of situation.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Neck injury surfaces
Moss is doubtful for Sunday's game against the Raiders with a neck injury he was first listed with Friday, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Moss had practiced fully both Wednesday and Thursday after logging nine touches across 30 snaps in the Week 8 loss to the Eagles, so it's unclear when the injury surfaced. The veteran offseason addition had seen his role progressively dwindle in recent weeks due to Chase Brown's ascent, so Moss may have been ticketed for modest opportunity even if he'd have played versus Las Vegas.
