Keaton Mitchell

22-Year-Old Running BackRB
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Few players' 2023 seasons were as anguishing to witness as Mitchell's, because the feel-good story of the undersized, undrafted speed demon who rose to improbable stardom gave way to the story of Mitchell's gruesome, season-ending knee injury. Although reported as a mere ACL tear, Mitchell's injury looked much worse than that and may ultimately be revealed to have entailed additional damage. The timing of the injury (Dec. 17) presents him with a challenge to be ready for Week 1, and even if that happens he'll just be a change-of-pace runner behind offseason addition Derrick Henry. Mitchell finished the season with 15 carries for 30 yards and one reception on one target for 28 yards across five regular-season games.
ANALYSIS
The second-year running back missed the season's first nine games while recovering from the significant knee injury that ended his promising rookie campaign. Even though Mitchell was active in Weeks 10-12, he did not receive an offensive touch in those games. He was then inactive for three games before somewhat getting in the mix in the final two weeks with 15 combined carries. The 2.0 YPC was a far cry from the 8.4 figure he established on 47 carries last season. If Justice Hill returns during the postseason, Mitchell will likely settle into a small change-of-pace role in the offense while also serving as a kick returner. In dynasty formats, it would be hasty to cut bait on a player like Mitchell simply because of a difficult year. His impressive rookie season and the injury caveat this year should still keep him on the radar for 2025 and beyond, even with Derrick Henry under contract for another year.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
An undrafted free agent out of East Carolina, Mitchell signed on with the Ravens this spring and it was an interesting fit that seemed to put him in position to crack the roster with a good camp. Mitchell has some legitimate talent; he averaged 6.9 yards per carry over his final two seasons at East Carolina (375 attempts) and was a threat in the passing game as well with 49 catches on 68 targets for 505 yards. Shortly before training camp, though, Baltimore added veteran Melvin Gordon to the backfield. Whereas Mitchell once looked like he only had to beat out Justice Hill for the final running back spot on the roster, now it would likely take some tough injury luck elsewhere in the backfield for Mitchell to open the year anywhere but the practice squad. He has the type of speed (4.37) and pass-catching ability to bolster some deep dynasty value, but his chances of making an impact in 2023 are minimal.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could get bigger Week 18 role
RBBaltimore Ravens
December 26, 2024
Mitchell could be in line for more touches in Week 18 against the Browns, as Rasheen Ali suffered a hip injury during Wednesday's win over the Texans, which Justice Hill missed due to a concussion.
ANALYSIS
Mitchell rushed 11 times for 20 yards and added a 28-yard catch as a change-of-pace option behind Derrick Henry in the Ravens' 31-2 win over Houston. The team is expected to play its most competitive lineup Week 18, as a win would cement the AFC North crown for the Ravens and earn them a home game in the Wild-Card Round of the playoffs. If neither Ali nor Hill suit up against Cleveland, Mitchell would slot into the second spot on the backfield depth chart behind Henry.
