After spending the first season of his career on the Colts' practice squad, Williams spent the next four years of his career as a member of the Cardinals and turned in some solid campaigns. While Williams received the largest workload of his career in 2017, it also marked his least efficient effort at 3.6 yards per carry. With Kareem Hunt set to lead the Chiefs' backfield and Spencer Ware and Damien Williams also vying for carries, Williams will need to turn in a good camp to put himself in position for reps on Sundays.

The presence of David Johnson doesn't afford many touches for the remaining running backs in Arizona, but a few developments have elevated Williams to the direct backup role. Most important, Chris Johnson is out of the picture after failing to make the team out of training camp. And while Andre Ellington is still in the mix for backup work after a failed experiment at wide receiver, rookie fifth-round pick T.J. Logan will begin his career with an extended absence due to injury. Williams has averaged 5.6 YPC and reached the end zone three times on 98 career carries. In the end, though, he'll be hard-pressed to see the field due to David Johnson's Herculean workload.

Williams spent most of last year on the Cardinals' practice squad, but after Andre Ellington and Chris Johnson went down with injuries in Week 12, he was elevated to the 53-man roster for the remainder of the season. Given the rock 27 times, Williams racked up 142 yards and one touchdown. He also returned eight kickoffs for a total of 126 yards. In addition to Ellington and Chris Johnson, David Johnson is ahead of him on the depth chart and, more importantly, are all healthy heading into the new season, meaning Williams will serve as emergency depth for the Cardinals.

Mined from the scrap heap at the midpoint of the 2014 season due to numerous injuries to the Cardinals' running-back corps, Williams didn't garner a touch in his first game on the active roster in Week 10 and was eventually released on Nov. 25. Less than two weeks removed from the move, he was again promoted from the practice squad with Andre Ellington (hernia) on course for placement on injured reserve, and proceeded to dash for 100 yards on 19 rushes. Including the wild-card loss in Carolina, Williams totaled 63 carries for 269 yards across five outings, which was good for a respectable 4.3 YPC. The selection of David Johnson in the 2015 NFL Draft was expected to push Williams down the depth chart, but the rookie was sidelined the first few weeks of training camp, prompting general manager Steve Keim to ink veteran Chris Johnson to a deal. Consequently, Williams could have a greater hill to climb in pursuit of a spot on the 53-man roster to start the campaign.

Williams, a late-round pick out of Utah State, will likely start the year as a reserve but has some long-term potential to develop into a solid runner.
