Goes back to practice squad

January 9, 2023
Glennon reverted to the Dolphins' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
ANALYSIS
Glennon was brought up for Sunday's regular-season finale against the Jets with No. 1 quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) ruled out and Teddy Bridgewater (finger/knee) considered questionable to play. While the practice-squad quarterback was active, he never saw the field with rookie quarterback Skylar Thompson taking all 65 offensive snaps. Bridgewater was also ruled active pregame, so even if Tagovailoa remains sidelined for this coming Sunday's wild-card matchup versus Buffalo, it's unlikely Glennon will slot in as anything higher than the team's third-string quarterback.

Glennon was signed in March to be the backup to Daniel Jones, a move that can only be seen as a vote of confidence in Jones, as the 31-year old Glennon won't be vying for the starting job in training camp. Should something happen to Jones, the Giants have a lot of interesting weapons, but even then Glennon has never shown much of a spark and is a statue in the pocket.
Glennon's path as a journeyman backup continues in 2020 after joining the Jags on a one-year deal in May. The 30-year-old made two garbage-time appearances for the Raiders last season, but was relegated to the No. 3 spot on the depth chart in favor of DeShone Kizer down the stretch. Glennon hasn't received a start since 2017 with the Bears, and that's unlikely to change in Jacksonville this season if Gardner Minshew stays healthy after putting together a solid rookie campaign.
Glennon's offseason transition from Arizona to Oakland is accompanied by a one-year deal worth just shy of $2M as the 29-year-old journeyman is now slated to play for his fourth team in six career seasons. Glennon, who served as Josh Rosen's backup during the latter's rookie campaign in 2018, compiled just 174 passing yards and one touchdown on 15 completions in two games of action with the Cardinals. Nathan Peterman and Landry Jones will make a push for the Raiders' 53-man roster through training camp, but Glennon will likely have a clear upper-hand in terms of the No. 2 job at QB behind starter Derek Carr.
Granted a chance to start for the Bears last season, Glennon nonetheless was looking over his shoulder from the outset due to the presence of 2017 second overall pick Mitchell Trubisky. Glennon's stint lasted a mere four games before the rookie took the reins of the offense, primarily due to a miserable six yards per attempt, four touchdowns versus five interceptions and a 1-3 record. He didn't play the rest of the campaign and is facing a similar scenario with his new employer, the Cardinals. In addition to a more viable veteran in Sam Bradford, Glennon may find himself third on the depth chart after the selection of first-round pick Josh Rosen. Glennon's best chance to see the field this year will be some combination of injuries and horrendous quarterback play.
Jay Cutler left for the broadcast booth and Brian Hoyer left for the 49ers, so the Bears signed the 6-6 Glennon. They also traded a fortune to move up and draft Mitchell Trubisky second overall, but Glennon, and his $18.5 million guaranteed, are expected to start as Trubisky develops after playing in a spread system in college. Just how long Glennon holds off the rookie is uncertain. Glennon has played two games in two years -- attempting 11 passes -- as the backup in Tampa Bay. His first two years with the Bucs, he played 19 games (18 starts, 13 as a rookie) but didn't impress, completing 58.8 percent of his passes with 6.5 YPA. The Bears signed Markus Wheaton and Kendall Wright, but with Alshon Jeffery gone, oft-injured Kevin White is the No. 1 WR. Trubisky's strong preseason performance could turn this into a competition sooner rather than later.
Glennon didn't take a single snap in 2015, after throwing for 4,025 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions over 19 games in the 2013-2014 seasons. A third-round pick in the second and final season of the Greg Schiano regime, the towering 6-foot-6 signal caller has always been serviceable when called upon, but his presence on the roster didn't deter the Bucs from leveraging their spot at the top of the 2015 draft to nab Jameis Winston. The No.1 overall pick was given the reins of the offense from Day 1 and took every snap during the regular season, leaving Glennon on the sidelines for the duration of the campaign. Trade rumors regarding the North Carolina State product were plentiful leading up to the 2016 draft, but he remains with the Bucs as the team enters into the summer. The team's quarterback depth chart currently goes four- deep however, meaning that the young veteran could still be on the move if a team suffers a key injury to the quarterback position during training camp or preseason.
Glennon was 1-5 as a starter last season for the Bucs, completing 57.6 percent of his passes for 1,417 yards, 10 touchdowns and six interceptions. However, the former third-round pick remained unable to prove in two seasons that he could be the QB of the future for a franchise that has lacked a true identity since its Super Bowl victory in 2001. He is expected to sit behind Jameis Winston this season in what should be a rare mentoring role for a 25-year-old signal-caller. As a backup, Glennon offers moderate arm strength and accuracy to go along with a durable frame.
Glennon was surprisingly effective as a rookie third-round pick last year, posting an 83.9 quarterback rating over 13 starts. At 6-foot-6, 232 pounds, Glennon was always known as a guy who can hit the mark in a clean pocket, but he tends to wither badly under pressure. Those issues were apparent last year, as Glennon took a sack once every 10.4 pass attempts, fumbling seven times in 13 starts. He seemed unable to truly carry the offense, moreover, averaging just 5.5 YPA in the six games he attempted more than 30 passes. He's the underdog in the looming competition with free agent addition Josh McCown, though he'd be on the QB2 radar if he does land the starting job.
Glennon will likely battle Dan Orlovsky for the No. 2 QB spot in Tampa Bay.

Could draw Week 13 start
QBNew York Giants
December 1, 2021
Glennon would be in line for his first start of the season if Daniel Jones is unable to play in Week 13 in Miami due to his neck strain.
ANALYSIS
The veteran journeyman had a serviceable five-game starting stint with Jacksonville to wrap up the 2020 season, completing 62 percent of his passes for 1,072 yards and a 7:5 TD:INT. Glennon has plenty of starting experience, but he short on quality targets if he gets the nod. Wideouts Sterling Shepard and Kadarius Toney are still dealing with quadriceps injuries that could cause at least one of them to sit out against a Dolphins defense that is allowing the seventh-fewest passing yards per home game.
