Courtney Upshaw

Upshaw, a 2012 second-round draft pick, was limited to a part-time role in 2013, after the Ravens signed Elvis Dumervil to pair with Terrell Suggs. Upshaw still saw a decent number of early-down snaps, but he was rarely on the field in passing situations. He'll likely work in a similar role this season, as he wasn't impressive in 2013.

Upshaw turned in a solid and thoroughly unspectacular rookie season, and now he'll likely be relegated to a part-time role. Terrell Suggs is an every-down workhorse at one outside linebacker spot, while newcomer Elvis Dumervil figures to see most of the playing time at the other outside linebacker spot. The Ravens will get creative and find packages that use all three players, but don't expect Upshaw to be a useful IDP so long as both Suggs and Dumervil are healthy.

The Ravens are expecting big things from Upshaw in his rookie season. He will fill the Rush linebacker/end role with Terrell Suggs out for at least the first six weeks, and possibly the whole season. Don't expect Upshaw to Match Suggs' numbers, but he should help Baltimore deal with the loss of the NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
