Reiff, an 11-year NFL veteran who has made 149 career starts at both tackle spots, joined the Patriots this offseason and is the current favorite to start at right tackle for the team. In order to secure the Week 1 assignment, he 'll have to fend off challenges presented by fellow linemen Calvin Anderson and Conor McDermott.
Though entering just his fourth season, the soft-spoken left tackle is being depended on to provide Detroit with some veteran leadership. Depending on how the rest of the line shakes out, Reiff could be the elder statesman on the Lions' offensive line.
Reiff is slated to start at tackle for Detroit.
Reiff right now is slated as a backup, but he'll push for a spot at both tackle positions and could even slide to guard if the Lions like him enough coming out of training camp.

Not guaranteed starting job
OGNew England Patriots
July 4, 2023
Reiff is not guaranteed the starting right tackle job in New England to begin the 2023 season, Ben Volin of the Boston Globe reports.
ANALYSIS
Reiff signed a one-year, $4.25 million deal to join the Patriots this offseason and was viewed as the starter at right tackle. That may still be the case, but the Patriots worked out veteran D.J. Fluker last month and have deployed Sidy Sow, their fourth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, at right tackle during the offseason program. Reiff played in 16 games with Chicago last season, starting 10.
