Moore is expected to announce his retirement from the NFL in the near future but will remain with the Cowboys organization as their new quarterbacks coach, Alex Marvez of Sporting News reports.

ANALYSIS
The former Boise State standout finished last season on Dallas' practice squad after losing his backup job to rookie Cooper Rush. Moore concludes his NFL career having appeared in only three games, all of which came with the Cowboys in 2015. His move into the coaching ranks would also seem to indicate that Scott Linehan will stick around as Dallas' offensive coordinator, as the two have a history together dating back to their time with the Lions in 2012.

Moore missed all of 2016 with a broken ankle, an injury that didn't get as much attention as Tony Romo's back woes but which still paved the way for Dak Prescott to seize the starting job. The Cowboys didn't bring in much competition in the offseason, so Moore's experience in offensive coordinator Scott Linehan's system leaves him as Prescott's backup. However, Moore's noodle arm doesn't give him much fantasy upside if he is pressed into service.

Moore followed offensive coordinator Scott Linehan from Detroit to Dallas last season and eventually got a chance to start after Brandon Weeden and Matt Cassel had both failed to adequately replace the injured Tony Romo. Moore struggled in his first two starts, but his huge 435-yard, three-TD performance in Week 17 against Washington was enough to convince the Cowboys to give him another chance. Alas, Moore landed on IR at the end of August.

Moore will be the Lions' third-string quarterback, where Detroit is about as solid as any team in the league.

The Lions are high on Moore, but he won't likely move past the No. 3 QB spot and Detroit isn't a lock to keep three quarterbacks on the roster. He'll have to show the during training camp that he's worth keeping around.
