Shines in preseason opener
Weeden completed nine of 11 passes for 97 yards and two touchdown passes in Houston's win over Kansas City in Thursday's preseason opener.
ANALYSIS
Weeden was sharp for the two drives he had, both of which ended in touchdowns to rookie tight end Jordan Akins. He spread the ball around, targeting six different receivers on his first drive. Weeden has cemented his role as Deshaun Watson's backup.

The Texans love a backup quarterback with organizational experience and Weeden is exactly that. Like Case Keenum and T.J Yates before him, Weeden returns for a second stint in Houston. The six-year veteran won a couple of starts down the stretch in 2015, helping the Texans clinch a playoff berth that season, then was cut in September of the following season. After spending 2017 with the Titans, Weeden returns to Houston in a position to be the primary backup to Deshaun Watson, although the 2018 offense should be slightly different from one he quarterbacked in 2015. While he may not be the best suited to step into an offense designed for Deshaun Watson, he has more experience than either of the other two guys in camp, Joe Webb and Stephen Morris.
