Rest-of-Season Projections
Released by Miami on Saturday
Thomas was released by Miami on Saturday, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Thomas had a solid camp but in the end he offers very little upside as far as a running back is concerned and doesn't play special teams. The Dolphins chose to go with several backs who are younger, more versatile, and offer higher upside.

Week 17 always means that certain playoff teams (and non-playoff teams to boot) will bench their starters. So Dez Bryant will be among the handful much lower in the rankings than usual this week.
There's chaos at quarterback this week, and one of the primary uncertain players is the Panthers' Cam Newton, who has an opportunity to face the Browns when they might be without Joe Haden.
Julio Jones's hip injury is one of the bigger question marks for the week, given how well he's played lately and how we expect his matchup against the Steelers to be a high scoring game.

The Dolphins and Thomas have decided to try an encore this season. He played 52 games for the team from 2011-14, but never averaged more than 3.8 YPC and would seem to be a long shot to make the team out of training camp. Thomas will be in a battle with Damien Williams and Isaiah Pead to fill the backup role behind Jay Ajayi to start the season. The Dolphins are unlikely to keep five RBs so Thomas may have to prove his worth on special teams in order to make the team.
