Bruton announced Monday that he has retired from professional football, Ben Swanson of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
A fourth-round pick of the Broncos in 2009, Bruton spent seven of his eight NFL seasons in Denver, playing a key reserve role in the secondary and serving as a special teams ace during the team's run to the championship in Super Bowl 50. He latched on with the Redskins in 2016, playing in four games before suffering a season-ending concussion, the sixth documented one since he entered the NFL. With Bruton citing his long-term health as a top priority, he'll walk away from the game and finish his career with 190 total tackles, three interceptions and two sacks in 108 games (12 starts).

Bruton won a Super Bowl with Denver last season, and has now signed with Washington to try to recapture that glory. The eighth-year safety had a very solid season for Denver before suffering a season-ending fibula fracture in December 2015, recording 49 tackles, two forced fumbles and two interceptions in 13 games. Bruton will now be the frontrunner for the Redskins’ strong safety job, and will look to aid a defense that finished 28th in the league in yards allowed per game in 2015. The veteran has definite promise as an IDP if he can improve on last season’s performance.
