Rest-of-Season Projections
Wraps up productive career
Philadelphia announced McCoy will sign a one-day contract with the organization Friday and retire from the NFL as a member of the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
After not receiving any offers to his liking in free agency this offseason, McCoy will call an end to a 12-year career that also included stops with the Bills, Chiefs and Buccaneers in addition to the Eagles. A 2009 second-round pick, McCoy enjoyed his most productive years in Philadelphia, earning both of his first-team All-Pro nods and three of his six Pro Bowl appearances as an Eagle. He retires as one of only five running backs in NFL history with at least 11,000 rushing yards and 500 receptions, with the other four being Hall of Famers (Marshall Faulk, LaDainian Tomlinson, Marcus Allen and Emmitt Smith).

McCoy celebrated his 32nd birthday in July and signed a one-year contract with the Buccaneers shortly thereafter. He averaged 4.6 yards on 101 carries for the Chiefs last year, but between fumbles (three) and his inefficient receiving work (6.5 yards per catch), he found himself on the inactive list by the time the team reached the AFC Championship Game. Backup/complementary duty is likely on tap for McCoy in 2020, especially after the Bucs inked Leonard Fournette on Sept. 3 to presumably share early-down work with Jones. However, given McCoy's pass-catching prowess and Tom Brady's past success throwing heavily to his backs, the veteran back could certainly still thrive in a role that focuses heavily on his receiving skills.

Looking for right situation
After contemplating retirement, McCoy confirmed he is now looking for the right situation in 2021, Grant Gordon of NFL.com reports. "I've had some talks to my agent Drew Rosenahaus. I was contemplating retirement. I've had some teams reach out. I think right now it's just all about being in shape, being ready for the call and also the right road, the right fit," McCoy told NFL Network's MJ Acosta on NFL Total Access.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Signed partly as security blanket
McCoy, who has agreed to a one-year, $1.05 million deal with the Buccaneers, was signed to serve as both veteran insurance for the team as a whole and quarterback Tom Brady in particular, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
McCoy arrives in Tampa with the well-earned reputation as one of the best pass-catching backs of the last two decades, an attribute that immediately makes him a potentially excellent fit for Brady. The future Hall of Fame quarterback enjoyed extensive success throwing to his backs during his storied tenure in New England, and although both Ronald Jones and third-round pick Ke'Shawn Vaughn have proven to be serviceable receivers thus far in their playing days, none is anywhere near as established in that aspect of their game as McCoy. The 32-year-old will look to beat out Dare Ogunbowale, who did flash some potential as a receiver last season (35-286), and salary shouldn't be an issue in terms of his possible retention; McCoy will only count $750,000 toward the cap since his contract qualifies for the NFL's minimum salary benefit exemption.
