Rest-of-Season Projections
Avery will be released by the Chiefs, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports.
ANALYSIS
With the decision expected to save them $3.4 million against the 2015 cap, the Chiefs probably didn't have a hard time with this one. The team is badly in need of superior talent at wide receiver, as Avery will likely get attention from interested teams as merely a third, fourth or fifth option at the position.

Avery returns to the Chiefs as their no. 2 wide receiver, and with a year under his belt to get used to Alex Smith and the KC offense his numbers should see an uptick from 2013. He's not a big red zone threat though, and isn't likely to see 100-plus targets, so his upside is decidedly limited.
