Rest-of-Season Projections
Chandler acknowledged that knee surgery he underwent will "probably keep (him) from playing again," CSN New England reports.
ANALYSIS
Chandler, who recorded 23 catches for 259 yards and four touchdowns in 15 games for the Patriots last season, was released this offseason with a "failed physical" designation. Now it has become clear that the knee issue that slowed him at times last season, could be career-ending. In any case, the 30-year-old pass-catcher has already indicated that playing in 2016 is not an option, with the Patriots meanwhile having traded for Martellus Bennett in an attempt to find Rob Gronkowski a suitable complement at the tight end position.

At 6-7, 260 pounds, Chandler – who caught 47 passes for 497 yards with three touchdowns with Buffalo last season – brings added size and red zone potential to the Patriots’ tight end corps. With Rob Gronkowski still firmly atop the team’s depth chart, the former Bill doesn’t have a clear path to ample targets when his star teammate is healthy. While Gronkowski made it through the 2014 season unscathed, he has had trouble staying on the field in the past, a reality that makes the Chandler signing look like a savvy depth/insurance move for New England.
