After a breakout of sorts in 2009, Sims-Walker never seemed to get on track last year. His per-play averages (7.0 YPT and 13.1 YPC) weren't too far off his 2009 marks, but he saw 31 fewer targets and eventually yielded his No. 1 receiver role to Mike Thomas. Sims-Walker claims a midseason ankle injury derailed him and that he's 100 percent healthy heading into 2011. Despite the injury recovery, the Jaguars let Sims-Walker go and he signed a one-year deal to play in St. Louis. At 6-2, 214 and with decent speed and good athleticism, Sims-Walker has some upside with the talented Sam Bradford throwing passes to him.
Slated as second fiddle to Torry Holt in a runfirst offense, Sims-Walker seemed like a long shot to be an impact player. But the third-year wideout from Central Florida put up a big first half and established himself as the team’s clear top target despite limping to the finish with calf and knee injuries. At 6-2, 214, Sims-Walker has good size, athleticism and decent speed. He’s not going to blow by defenders, but he’ll use his big frame to box them out and come down with the ball. Sims-Walker has good hands, and he’s a good end-zone target, seeing five looks from inside the five (tied for 9th). Sims-Walker heads into 2010 with no established competition for targets — at press time, second year wideout Mike Thomas was slated to start opposite him, and Marcedes Lewis, the team’s starting tight end, has never caught more than 44 balls in any season of his career. The Jaguars are likely to be a run-first team once again, but unless their 23rd-ranked defense improves substantially, David Garrard will be forced to air it out quite a bit, especially against division rivals like the Colts and Texans.
Walker enters 2009 as the Jags' No. 2 wideout, but faces competition for the spot by a triumverate of rookies. Don't expect Walker to make much of a fantasy impact, especially given the Jags' run-heavy offense.
Walker spent all of 2007 on IR with a knee injury, essentially turning 2008 into his rookie year. The Jags were high on Walker's size (6-2, 205) and speed after drafting him, and he could be a real weapon if healthy. Walker would have to move ahead of a number of receivers on the Jags' depth chart to make much of a fantasy impact, but he has the talent and size to do so.
