Hill (back) was released by the Jets on Tuesday, NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Hill was apparently let go with a non-football injury designation, which could get testy, given reports that he was injured during warmups in Week 11. Either way, Hill's release leaves the Jets thin at wideout heading into Thursday's game against the Patriots.

Provides depth at wide receiver and likely won't see much field time unless there is a rash of injuries.
Hill seems to have sealed up a starter's spot heading into 2011, though given the Jags' questions at quarterback and run-heavy offensive schemes, he should be a late-round flier at best.
Hill is likely guaranteed a roster spot because of his special teams play, but the indications after offseason workouts are that Hill is going to seriously push Ted Ginn for the number-three receiver job. Either way, the 49ers' third wideout probably won't be fantasy relevant, when you consider the pass-catching abilities of Frank Gore and Vernon Davis in addition to starting wideouts Michael Crabtree and Josh Morgan.
Hill showed vast improvement last season, but will enter the season as the team's fourth or fifth wide receiver. He could have some value beyond 2009, but his production will be fairly limited this season.
Hill comes into 2008, fifth on the 49ers' depth chart, and provides no fantasy value, after missing extended time in 2007. Hill played in only five games in 2007, registering one reception for six yards.
Hill, the 49ers' third-round pick in 2007, could be in the mix with Ashley Lelie and Bryan Gilmore to start at split end, though we will get a better sense as to his progress when training camp opens and preseason games start. Most scouts do not believe that Hill is explosive after the catch and feel that he drops too many catchable balls. That said, his size and speed -- coupled with his 37-inch vertical jump -- make him an intriguing late-round selection in deep leagues.
