Cooper has spent time with four teams since being selected in the fourth round of the 2016 draft, with his biggest role coming with Arizona in 2019 when he caught 25 passes for 243 yards and a touchdown. Otherwise he's primarily been utilized in the return game, but he may need to overtake Jamal Agnew as the return man to have a chance of making the roster.
After spending most of his first three seasons as a return specialist with the Rams, Cooper had his career-best offensive campaign with the Cardinals last year, catching 25 of 33 targets for 243 yards and a touchdown. The 25-year-old then inked a one-year deal with the Panthers this offseason. In Carolina, he figures to compete for the team's return job as well as a depth receiving role in new coordinator Joe Brady's offense, where his shiftiness could help him make the roster and push for pegging behind the Panthers' top three wideouts.
Cooper is coming off a Pro Bowl campaign where he proved to be a lethal returner. His wideout abilities don't fit the standards of a fantasy asset, however, as he's had just 25 receptions for 190 yards and zero touchdowns over two NFL seasons -- not to mention Brandin Cooks signing during the offseason.
Los Angeles selected Cooper Kupp and Josh Reynolds in the 2017 NFL Draft to beef up its receiving corps, and with a new coaching regime, Cooper's role in the passing attack is unknown. The former Gamecock caught 14 of 20 targets for just 106 yards during his rookie campaign and probably will never be a great fit as a traditional outside receiver. With Tavon Austin likely the better slot option and talent for gadget plays, Cooper will struggle to move the fantasy needle in his sophomore season, especially with Sammy Watkins and Robert Woods also on the roster. Still, the 22-year-old wideout is a talented athlete and owns big-play ability, so there's some long-term upside. It just might take a change of scenery for Cooper to reach it.
Cooper played a Tavon Austin-type role at South Carolina before being drafted in the fourth round in April, catching passes and getting occasional carries. The only problem is that the Rams already have Austin, so that somewhat clouds Cooper's fantasy prospects. His poor showing at the combine also casts concern over his outlook as a catch-and-run specialist. That being said, if he can really produce in the preseason, he has a shot at the fourth wideout spot in a Los Angeles that finished last in total yards last season.
