Sudfeld has shown flashes of promise as a pass-catching tight end, but he's ultimately just not good enough to make an impact in most fantasy formats. Add in that he's competing with Kellen Davis for the No. 2 tight end spot behind Jace Amaro, and there's little optimism for any kind of fantasy breakout in 2016.
Suffered torn ACL in June.
As an undrafted free agent out of Nevada, Sudfeld enjoyed his 15 seconds of fame in fantasy circles as he was tabbed as hot sleeper option for the Patriots following Aaron Hernandez's dismissal from the team and Rob Gronkowski's slow recovery from back and arm surgeries. Sudfeld, however, failed to capitalize on his golden opportunity, appearing in a mere three games with the Patriots and failing to catch a pass on only three targets. He was uncerimoniously cut midseason, eventually landing with the tight end-starved Jets, but again, making nary an impact. With incumbent starter Jeff Cumberland signing an extension this offseason and the Jets drafting highly-touted tight end Jace Amaro in the second round of this year's draft, Sudfeld will have an uphill battle to earn playing time in New York.
Thanks to the uncertainly surrounding the status of the Patriots' top tight end, Rob Gronkowski to start the season, the 6-7 Sudfeld -- who displays upside as a pass-catcher -- appears poised to enjoy some fantasy utility out of the gate. That, of course, is provided he can both stay healthy -- an issue he dealt with in college -- and hold his own as a blocker.
