Hairston was placed on the Non-Football Illness list Thursday and has been ruled out for the year, Eric D. Williams of ESPN.com reports.

ANALYSIS
Hairston was expected to serve as a backup tackle for most of the 2017 season. The team signed offensive lineman Tyler Marz from the Titans' practice squad to take over that role in Hairston's absence.

Chris Hairston is competing with Erik Pears to be the starting right tackle in Buffalo. His recuperation and rehabilitation from off-season surgery yields an edge to Pears for the job.

Hairston took over for an injured Demetrius Bell to become Buffalo's starting left tackle in the middle of his rookie season last year. He showed definite promise considering he was just a fourth-rounder, though the Buffalo brass doesn't seem 100 percent sold on him just yet.
