A productive free safety on a strong defensive unit, Williams has started 14 games each of the past two years averaging 2.5 interceptions and 79 tackles.

After initially starting his career as a misfit at cornerback, Williams found his proper place at safety for the Bills last year, turning into a three-down player and earning a four-year, $26 million contract extension in the offseason. Although a rib injury cost him two games, Williams finished the year with 82 tackles (60 solo) in 14 games, and his background as a former cornerback paid off as he intercepted four passes. Williams ought to take the next step in his development now that he has a year of experience at his new position, and there should be more stats up for grabs with former star safety Jairus Byrd now in New Orleans. The Bills' uptempo offense means that the team plays more snaps per game than most other teams, so Williams should continue seeing plenty of opportunities to pile up tackles and interceptions in 2014.

The depth chart in the secondary is crowded in Buffalo. Aaron Williams is a former second round pick as a corner back but has failed to perform in that role. He will move to safety for the Bills and is probably the fourth safety on the roster.

Williams, entering his second season, has a good chance at a starting cornerback slot. Both spots are kind of up for grabs between Williams, first-rounder Stephon Gilmore, Terrence McGee, Leodis McKelvin, and then Justin Rogers as a dark horse, though it's thought that Williams, the Bills' second-round pick in 2011, has the inside track for one of those spots. In nine games and six starts last season, Williams contributed 32 tackles, five passes defensed, one pick, and one forced fumble.

The 34th overall pick in the draft will play corner in the NFL but has safety skills as well if those are ever needed. The Bills are pretty loaded at CB, however, one of the few positions they have that type of strength, so Williams is looking like a No. 4 or No. 5 corner to begin his career.
