Amukamara is among the Saints' first five roster cuts, Mike Triplett of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Amukamara didn't make a strong impression in the preseason opener and is getting cut as a result. The veteran cornerback could still get a shot with another team in preseason, or even once the regular season begins, should injuries strike.

The Bears elected to part ways with Amukamara this offseason after the 31-year-old started 42 of his 44 games for Chicago, coming off a 2019 campaign in which he recorded 53 tackles (44 solo), 10 passes defensed and a forced fumble in 15 contests. His veteran presence in Las Vegas will be appreciated among a young outside cornerback unit that includes 2019 second-round pick Trayvon Mullen and 2020 first-round selection Damon Arnette, who could push Amukamara for the starting job.
Pass rush cures many ills on a defense. Going into last season, Amukamara had seven interceptions over his past seven years, but once the Bears traded for Khalil Mack, the pass rush became devastating, and Amukamara matched his career high with three picks. In addition to the sacks, he posted a very solid 66 tackles, so even as he enters his age-30 season, and although he's not an elite IDP, he should post another strong season.
As an IDP, Amukamara's calling card is his ability to pile up tackles, as he's notched at least 46 stops in each of the last six seasons. Unfortunately, the cornerback doesn't bring much to the table in terms of interceptions, as he's only picked off seven passes in seven NFL campaigns, but he's failed to grab one in any of the last two seasons. If drafting him in IDP leagues, his floor is excellent with his tackling ability, but consider any interceptions a bonus.
Amukamara was signed this offseason to assume the starting role at left cornerback after spending the first six years of his career with the Giants and Jaguars. Although he hasn’t played a full season since 2013, he recorded 85 tackles that season, and that’s his greatest asset as an IDP option. Despite playing 62 games at corner during his career, he’s only intercepted seven passes while posting more than one in a season just a single time.
Amukamara signed a one-year deal as a free agent and will compete with Davon House for a starting cornerback spot opposite rookie Jalen Ramsey. The 2011 first-round pick is fast and physical but has missed 13 games over the past two seasons.
Starting corner, returning from a torn biceps, Amukamara is a decent source of tackles from the defensive backfield.
Starting corner on an underrated defense. Notched 85 tackles and could see more chances with Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie upgrading the opposite side,
Former first-round pick, will start opposite Corey Webster. Amukamara is emerging as a top NFL corner, but it's likely more action will go Webster's way as a result, so don't expect huge IDP numbers.
With Terrell Thomas out indefinitely due to a knee injury, Amukamara should get a chance to start opposite Corey Webster. Expect opposing teams to test him early, so the former first-rounder should have a chance to establish himself as a playmaker.
The team's No, 1 pick, Amukamara will likely play in nickel and dime packages initially, but could eventually push Terrell Thomas and/or Corey Webster for a starting role.

ANALYSIS
Amukamara hasn't suited up for an NFL game since 2019, but the veteran cornerback could make sense as an emergency reserve option for an Indianapolis team preparing for playoff competition. He spent time with New Orleans during the preseason, but he was cut after just half a month with the team.
