Lowery was released by the Chargers on Saturday, Josina Anderson of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Lowery recorded 60 tackles, one interception, one touchdown, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery last season with the Chargers. The team has decided to move on, however. Rayshawn Jenkins and Tre Boston should see additional time at free safety as a result.

Lowery was the model of consistency in a sea of chaos, as the Chargers were ravaged by injuries in 2016. However after the team opted to bring in Tre Boston, formerly of the Panthers, Lowery could face major competition for the starting free safety job. Should he earn it, the nine-year vet could make for an intriguing IDP candidate in deep leagues, as he recorded over 60 tackles for the third consecutive season.
Lowery parlayed a career year (76 tackles, four interceptions) with the Colts into a three-year contract this offseason. Now poised to play for his fourth team in as many years, Lowery is expected to fill in for the departed Eric Weddle and could be a solid IDP candidate once more.
Lowery will start at free safety for the Colts after signing as a free agent from Atlanta. Lowery was productive with one sack, 79 tackles (60 solo), two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery last season, and could be a decent IDP option again in 2015.
Lowery is currently projected to start at free safety, but he'll certainly be challenged by third-round pick Dezmen Southward. Whoever wins the position should put up solid defensive numbers. Thomas DeCoud, who held the position last year, tallied 65 total tackles in 2013. DeCoud also tallied 10 total interceptions in 2011 and 2012 combined, so there's plenty of IDP value at free safety in Atlanta. Don't be surprised if the veteran gets the starting nod over the rookie.
The veteran will attempt to hold onto his starting spot, as the team brought in a number of young defensive backs this offseason. Lowery ended last season on injured reserve and missed seven games with an ankle injury. He finished the season with 31 tackles and one interception in nine games.
Lowery will once again be a key part of a much-improved Jacksonville defense that finished top-six in 2011. Lowery finished with 36 tackles in 13 games as a starting CB.
Will compete with Emanuel Cook for playing time at the safety position
