Garrison Hearst

Hearst, an 11-year pro and two-time Pro Bowler, was signed to provide depth and a veteran presence. The four-time 1,000-yard rusher is expected to compete for the starting job, and his receiving skills are a nice positive for the Denver offense. While he has positives, the cons include his age at 33; two major injuries in his career -- torn ACL his rookie season and a broken ankle in the 1998 playoffs that caused him to miss the 1999 and 2000 seasons; and he hasn’t carried a full load of 300 plus carries since 1998 when he had 310 attempts. Additionally, he spent the last three seasons with San Francisco in a committee with running back Kevan Barlow, and has never scored double-digit touchdowns in his career. Based on these factors, you can’t look at him as anything more than a No. 3 running back for your teams if he emerges as the guy.
