Roach (concussion) continues to suffer from headaches and may ultimately miss the upcoming 2015 season as a result, Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Roach hasn't officially discussed shutting it down for the season as he continues his offseason workouts in California, but some team sources of the San Francisco Chronicle do not expect Roach to take the field, meaning he'll miss his second straight season. Further news should be released in due time when Roach and Oakland's medical staff decide his future.

General Manager Reggie McKenzie probably hasn't done many things right with the Raiders, but signing Roach in free agency last year was one of his better ideas. Previously no more than a part-time player in his six seasons with Chicago, Roach was a hit in a starting role for Oakland last year. He finished with 112 tackles (83 solo), 5.5 sacks and an interception, while also forcing four fumbles, which ranked among the best in the category among linebackers. He might lose a few snaps to fellow talented linebackers Kevin Burnett and Sio Moore, but it generally appears that Roach is locked in as the top guy for Oakland.

Roach missed just one game in his final four seasons in Chicago, totaling a career-high 75 tackles (54 solo) in 2009. He appears primed to begin his first year in Oakland as the starting middle linebacker, though there's little IDP upside with the lack of sacks and turnovers.

Roach will have some competition at strong-side linebacker this season after the Bears signed Geno Hayes. While Roach has the advantage of familiarity with the team, Hayes' signing may be an indication the team envisions Roach more as a special teams player.

Roach is currently in line to start on the strong side alongside Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs. While there may not be an abundance of tackles left after those to get theirs, Roach should be able to be very productive in his new starting role.

Roach started 15 games for the Bears last season, but those starts came primarily as the result of injuries to Brian Urlacher, Pisa Tinoisamoa and Lance Briggs. With all three of those linebackers now healthy, Roach is unlikely to match his 2009 totals of 75 tackles, three forced fumbles and two sacks.

Roach looked like a starter heading into 2009 before the Bears signed Pisa Tinoisamoa. Now, he'll likely be the fourth linebacker and should see time on special teams.
