Leodis McKelvin

McKelvin is a solid starter at cornerback for the Bills, but is coming back from injury. He will have to fend off rookie Ronald Darby to retain a starting job on this defense. When he plays he is productive, grabbing four interceptions and getting 48 tackles in only nine games started last year.

Still a starter at cornerback for the Bills, McKelvin has some upside in deep IDP leagues.

McKelvin is expected to be the Bills' main returnman in 2013 and could fight for a starting CB spot opposite Stephon Gilmore.

The former first-rounder has been mostly a disappointment in his career, and while he seems to have had a decent offseason, youngsters like Aaron Williams and Stephon Gilmore seem to be passing him by. McKelvin, while technically in the mix for a starting spot, will probably have to hope to make the team as a No. 3 or No. 4 corner and work his way up from there.

The former first-rounder is in a three-way battle with Terrence McGee and Drayton Florence for two starting cornerback spots. McKelvin did have 62 total tackles, 11 passes defensed and two picks in 2010, so he's worth watching in IDP formats if he doesn't get No. 3 cornerback treatment.

McKelvin seems to be recovered from his fractured fibula last season. He's looking like the No. 2 cornerback opposite Terrence McGee, though it's worth noting the new coaching staff seems to like Drayton Florence as well. He's not much of a tackler, but he has some playmaker in him and we'd suggest at least two or three picks and possibly an active role in the return game. In his healthy rookie season (2008), McKelvin set a single-season franchise record with 1,468 kickoff return yards and his 28.2-yard average was third best in the NFL.

After a slow start, McKelvin had a good rookie season, finishing with 32 total tackles, five passes defensed, two interceptions and two touchdowns. He started the last six games after Jabari Greer was injured, and will now take over as the No. 2 corner. He's also going to be one of the league's better kickoff men, as he has sheer speed, has a knack for the big burst, and plays for a team consistently at the top of the special teams rankings. The tackles should go up as he gets more defensive playing time this season, so 50-70 tackles, 2-4 picks and a return or two for a score would seem to be a good possibility.

McKelvin will battle Jabari Greer for a starting cornerback position this season. The Bills drafted McKelvin with the 11th overall pick and he should hold some IDP value if he wins the job. He definitely looks to have value a couple of years down the road, especially once you factor in his return skills.
