Browner was released by the Seahawks on Monday, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.
ANALYSIS
Early this month, it was reported that Seattle would use Browner as a defensive specialist who could cover bigger receivers and tight ends. However, it appears this plan wasn't worth holding its own roster spot. Considering it didn't work out in Seattle, it would be a bit of surprise if the struggling Browner finds a new home before the season kicks off.

Browner was signed back by the Seahawks in April after two years away in New England (2014) and New Orleans (2015). He appeared in all 16 games for the Saints last year, recording 76 tackles, 10 passes defensed, one interception and one fumble recovery. But he also led the league in defensive holding penalties (11) and defensive personal fouls (6) and was flagged three times for pass interference. He'll reunite with a talented secondary that includes Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor, and Earl Thomas to recreate the original "Legion of Boom," but his role is uncertain entering training camp.
After signing with the Saints this offseason, Browner is expected to start at cornerback opposite incumbent Keenan Lewis. After an impressive rookie season in which he managed 51 tackles and six interceptions, Browner has struggled to stay healthy, missing 19 games over the past three seasons. In nine games with the Patriots last season, he recorded 25 tackles and an interception. If Browner is able to stay healthy, he could be a solid option in IDP leagues.
The 6-4, 221-pound cornerback -- who must serve a four-game suspension to start the season, figures to start opposite Darrelle Revis upon his return the Patriots' secondary in Week 5.
A former CFL star, Browner has become a Pro Bowl cornerback for the Seahawks. At 6-4, 221, he outmuscles most receivers yet has enough speed to not get beat deep. He has nine interceptions the last two years but doesn't get enough tackle opportunities (44 tackles last season) to be an IDP option, and his passes defensed dropped from 23 in 2011 to six last year as quarterbacks stopped throwing his way. After missing four games last year to a drug suspension, he'll again line up as the starting right corner, forming perhaps the league's best cornerback tandem with Richard Sherman.
Browner is an odd story, and an even stranger sight. The former CFL product was a 16-game starter for the Seahawks last year – his first with the team and first in the NFL since he was an undrafted rookie in 2005 and spent that entire year on the IR – and he looks more like a linebacker than a cornerback at 6-4, 221. He was quite a playmaker for the Seahawks, complementing a lackluster tackle total (54) with six interceptions, two of which he took back for touchdowns, and 23 passes defended.
