Spencer (foot) has been placed on injured reserve, the Raiders' official website reports.
ANALYSIS
Spencer's recovery hasn't gone as planned, so the Raiders opted to shut him down for the season. The impact of his absence should be lessened since Oakland is expected to get No. 1 cornerback Ron Bartell (shoulder) back in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Ravens. Michael Huff is expected to man the other starting cornerback spot going forward.

Spencer is slated to start at cornerback for the Raiders this season. He battled injuries throughout last season, appearing in only nine games for the 49ers.
Spencer will start at right cornerback.
Spencer had a strong 2009 campaign, recording 53 tackles and two interceptions after winning a starting job during training camp. Those are probably the type of numbers you can expect out of Spencer going forward.
Spencer will begin the season as the team's starting right cornerback.
Spencer, who battled injuries in 2007, is expected to resume a starting CB spot in 2008.
Spencer signed a five-year contract extension with the 49ers early last season, then proceeded to suffer through an injury-plagued campaign that saw him lose his job as a starting cornerback. With Nate Clements and Walt Harris in front of him, Spencer is likely to line up as the team's third cornerback and could step in if either starter falters or is injured.
Has progressed well since being drafted in the second round in 2004 out of Pittsburgh and is the starting right cornerback. Took over that spot during 2004 after Mike Rumph was injured and has not relinquished it. Had 74 solo tackles and four interceptions last year and could have similar numbers as well as pick up a few sacks this year as the Niners figure to blitz more.
Was penciled in the team's nickel back but ended up starting at right cornerback due to Mike Rumph's broken forearm. Acquitted himself fairly well at the position and is listed as the starter there for 2005.
Spencer is expected to play in the team's nickel package and on special teams.
