Rico Gathers

A preseason concussion landed Gathers on IR to begin the 2017 campaign, but it was his liability as a blocker that caused the Cowboys to keep him stashed there all year rather than add him back to the 53-man roster once he got healthy. A converted basketball player, Gathers has the impressive frame, wingspan and athleticism to be a mismatch as a receiver in the mold of Antonio Gates or Jimmy Graham, but his lack of experience has prevented him from getting any kind of chance on a team that's been spoiled by Jason Witten's Hall of Fame performance at the position. If Dallas is willing to accept his limitations and still-rudimentary understanding of blocking assignments, Gathers could prove to be a useful target for Dak Prescott. On the other hand, if the coaching staff demands a more well-rounded skill set from the third-year player, he could find himself on another roster by Week 1.
