Declares for NFL Draft
Potts announced Thursday that he will forego his additional year of eligibility and enter the 2024 NFL Draft, Tyler Donohue of 247Sports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Potts spent one season with the Nittany Lions after transferring over from Minnesota following a four-year stint with the Gophers. He did not get a ton of opportunities but combined for 223 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns for the year. He totaled 213 touches on the ground between the 2021 and 2022 seasons and combined for over 1,000 yards and nine touchdowns over that span and will test out how his talents will translate at the next level.

2022 Fantasy Outlook
Potts is Minnesota’s top returning rusher from the 2021 season despite playing only five games before suffering a season-ending undisclosed injury last season. The junior running back accumulated 552 yards and six touchdowns on 112 carries during his short stint as Minnesota’s primary back in place of previous starter Mohamed Ibrahim, who also suffered a season-ending injury to open the season. However, Potts’ impressive production may have been a function of the team’s highly experienced offensive line that was able to outmuscle a relatively weak slate of non-conference opponents. Minnesota finished the 2021 season with the most rushes per game (46.2) of any Power 5 team, and this run-first identity should carry on into 2022. Therefore, Minnesota should utilize a steady backup rotation of Potts and Bryce Williams to help spell starting running back Ibrahim, who elected to exercise his final season of collegiate eligibility.
