Montgomery functioned primarily as a change-of-pace back behind workhorse running back Jerome Ford. During the 2021 season, the 5-foot-10 senior appeared in 14 games, logging 46 carries for 312 yards and three touchdowns, while hauling in six passes for 42 yards and a touchdown. With Ford leaving the program and joining the NFL, Montgomery figures to take on a share of the 215 vacated carries for the Bearcats in 2022. It is worth noting that the Bearcats brought in sophomore-transfer Corey Kiner from LSU, who handled 79 carries for 324 yards and two touchdowns during his freshman season with the Tigers. It is likely that Montgomery and Kiner will split carries at the top of the backfield with senior Charles McClelland handling a share of the workload as well.
