As expected, Burkhead really broke out in 2011 after Roy Helu went to the NFL. Despite playing in an offense that lacked a legitimate passing game, Burkhead averaged 4.8 yards per carry while running for 1,357 yards and 15 touchdowns. He was fairly good as a receiver, too, catching 21 passes for 177 yards and two scores. His upside probably isn't especially high, but Burkhead's consistency (at least one touchdown in every regular season game but one) makes him a rock-solid fantasy fit.

Burkhead doesn’t figure to have a monopoly on the Nebraska running game, but his workload is still in for a big increase now that Roy Helu is gone. Burkhead ran for 951 yards and seven touchdowns last year, while Helu totaled 1,245 yards and 11 touchdowns. With that production up for grabs, Burkhead should be able to match Helu’s numbers from last year.

Burkhead averaged nine carries per game last year and is probably the favorite to be the top backup to Roy Helu Jr. He'll compete with Dontrayevous Robinson for the spot, but whoever wins is a good insurance pick in Big 12-only leagues given Helu Jr's injury issues.
