Past Fantasy Outlooks
2017
2016
2015
Although he plays at Old Dominion, Lawry has the look of a future NFL running back. He has a low, dense build and a high-motor style of running that allows him to tear through traffic, piling up 3,338 yards (6.3 YPC) and 38 touchdowns the last three years, adding 49 receptions for 441 yards and two touchdowns. Lawry's workload might be capped due to the presence of talented fellow RB Jeremy Cox, though, and Lawry is a bit of an injury risk after missing two games and playing hobbled in a handful of others the last two years.
Lawry (5-10, 201) might not have much national recognition, but he's poised to post enormous numbers. He has 2,083 yards (6.4 YPC) and 27 TDs on his 328 career carries, yet his workload in his two seasons at Old Dominion were limited by a backup role in 2014 and team-wide injury troubles in 2015. The Old Dominion offense should bounce back after QB instability derailed last season, and Lawry's elite efficiency suggests he'll capitalize with a career year in such an event. Last year's 1,288 yards and 12 TDs from scrimmage look close to the worst-case scenario.
Lawry, 5-10, 205, began his freshman season last year as the backup to Gerard Johnson, but by October he had taken over a workhorse role. In the Monarchs' final seven games, Lawry ran for 792 yards (7.0 YPC) and 12 touchdowns on just 114 carries. He also showed plus receiving skills by snagging 12 passes for 126 yards in the final five games. Old Dominion returns its entire offensive line, so Lawry's high-level efficiency should continue despite the graduation of longtime star quarterback Taylor Heinicke.
