Will retire from football
Williams announced Monday that he will no longer play football after suffering from a neurological injury in Arkansas' spring game.
ANALYSIS
This is the second neurological injury that the team's star running back has suffered from in his young football career, but Williams described it as a feeling he never wanted to have again. As a result, he will end his football career early in order to preserve his health. Williams is coming off a stellar 2016 campaign where he rushed for 1,360 yards and 12 touchdowns, and now, following his departure, sophomore Devwah Whaley is the most likely candidate to emerge as the Razorbacks' lead rusher in 2017.

2016 Fantasy Outlook
Arkansas just enjoyed one of its golden ages of running backs, having a stable of Alex Collins and Jonathan Williams put up impressive numbers over the past three years. However, J. Williams missed the entirety of the 2015 season with a foot injury, which allowed Rawleigh to work in as the Razorbacks’ second running back as a true freshman. After making an impact (254 yards and 1 TD on 56 carries), Williams’ season was cut short due to a neck injury. However, the downtime he’s had to heal has allowed him to get back to full strength and coach Brett Bielema even went as far as to say that he expects Williams to be a 1,000 yard rusher this season. It’s important to note that Arkansas will have several running backs at its disposal this season in addition to Williams, such as senior bruiser Kody Walker and incoming freshman Devwah Whaley. That said, Bielema has given 200+ carries to two backs at Arkansas before (2014), so with a new quarterback under center, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Williams, Walker, and Whaley all see plenty of work out of the backfield in 2016.
