Nicholas Singleton

Running BackRB
Penn State Nittany Lions
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Penn State sported a two-headed backfield again with Singleton and Kaytron Allen again in 2023, and there's little reason to anticipate a chance on that front this season. Even though Singles tallied almost 300 fewer yards and four fewer touchdowns on the ground, he still had 15 more carries last year. The biggest reason for this discrepancy is Singleton went from 6.8 YPC to 4.4 YPC. Even so, he's an explosive back who seems bound to bounce back on the front. He also salvaged some fantasy value last season by reeling in 26 of his 31 targets, turning them into 308 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns to far surpass Allen as a receiving option. Singleton did establish himself more in the latter half of the 2023 campaign, but the risk of splitting carries will need to be weighed when grappling with selecting him. Read Past Outlooks
Running it back in 2025
January 13, 2025
Singleton will return to Happy Valley for his senior season, Richard Scarcella of the Reading Eagle reports.
ANALYSIS
Singleton has spent three productive years as a Nittany Lion, and he'll return to spearhead the Penn State backfield once again in his senior season. He's coming off a career year, rushing for 1,099 yards and 12 scores while catching 41 passes for 375 yards and five touchdowns. With Drew Allar also returning in 2025, this Penn State offense should remain highly formidable.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2023
2022
Singleton had an excellent freshman season where he saw a good amount of work and did not disappoint. The freshman has explosive potential, racking up 22 plays of 10-plus-yard rushes and 16 carries of 15 yards or more. That breakaway ability was on full display in his 87-yard Rosel Bowl run, and he should see a healthy share of the workload again in 2023 alongside Kaytron Allen. Singles closed out 2022 with a total of 156 carries, 1,061 yards, 12 touchdowns on the ground and another 11 grabs for 85 yards and one touchdown as a receiver. He also was consistent as a returner, where he had 14 attempts for 349 yards and a touchdown. His 4.17 yards after contact per attempt also ranked 12th-best in the country, highlighting Singleton's ability to shed tacklers and continue to grind out yardage. There's little reason to anticipate a dropoff in production in year two, and it wouldn't be shocking if he improves on his freshman output.
Our highest-rated true freshman, Singleton has a chance to be a fantasy force right away. The consensus No.1 back in the 2022 class, Singleton enters a backfield that is sorely in need of a go-to player after combining for 1,150 yards on 3.9 YPC last year. The second-leading rusher, Noah Cain, is gone, so there is ample opportunity up for grabs. It’s unfair to lob Saquon Barkley comparisons at Singleton, but he is uber-talented and should push for the starting role behind a strong offensive line. He’s not just the top freshman back, but he’s viable as an RB2 in drafts.
