Leaving Las Cruces
Romero announced Thursday via his personal Twitter account that he has entered the NCAA's transfer portal with the intention of leaving New Mexico State and playing his final year of eligibility in 2020 elsewhere as a graduate transfer.
ANALYSIS
Romero opened 2018 as the Aggies' starting quarterback, but he was benched early in that season and didn't attempt any passes after Week 3. He worked exclusively as a backup in 2019, with his lone passing attempts coming in New Mexico State's blowout loss to Alabama in Week 2. Considering he had trouble finding the field for a 2-10 squad, Romero will likely have to drop down to the FCS or Division II ranks if he's hopeful to receive a legitimate chance at starting in 2020.
