Announces draft intentions
Pitts announced Sunday that he will skip the Gators' Dec. 30 Cotton Bowl matchup with Oklahoma to begin preparations for the 2021 NFL Draft, Adam Rittenberg of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
A lock to win the John Mackey Award for the nation's top tight end, Pitts capped off a spectacular junior season with another remarkable outing (seven catches for 129 yards and a touchdown) Saturday in Florida's 52-46 loss to Alabama in the SEC Championship Game. All told, he finished with a 43 receptions for 770 yards and 12 touchdowns across eight games. The 6-foot-6, 240-pound Pitts will likely be one of the first tight ends off the board in April's draft.

It’s rare to see a tight end work as the top target in a team’s passing attack, but it’s also rare to see a tight end of Pitts’ talent. He led the team in targets in 2019 with 79 and he converted that into 54 grabs for 649 yards and five touchdowns. Pitts (6-6, 239) has tight end length with wide receiver movement skills, making him a matchup nightmare down the seam. Plus, Florida has to replace Van Jefferson, Freddie Swain, and LaMical Perine, who combined for 40 percent of the target share in 2019. With so many unprovens at receiver, Florida may have to lean even more on Pitts in 2020, which puts him in serious contention for being the top fantasy tight end.
