Leaving school for NFL
January 4, 2022
Eleby announced Tuesday via his personal Twitter account that he will forgo his remaining eligibility at Western Michigan to enter the 2022 NFL Draft.
ANALYSIS
A fourth-year redshirt sophomore this past season, Eleby had the option of sticking around in Kalamazoo for two more years, but he'll instead take his talents to the next level. He emerged as a full-time starter during Western Michigan's abbreviated six-game 2020 campaign and built on that season in 2021. Over 13 games this past fall, Eleby completed 63.2 percent of his attempts for 3,277 yards and a 23:6 TD:INT while adding six scores on the ground. Eleby's departure leaves true freshman Jack Salopek as the next man up on the depth chart, but don't be surprised if Western Michigan looks to the transfer portal to provide the team with a more experienced option under center.

Past Fantasy Outlooks

2019
Eleby returns after leading the MAC in touchdown passes (18) and YPA (11.2) in six games, his first as the full-time starter. He loses top option D’Wayne Eskridge, but Jaylen Hall (14 YPT) and Skyy Moore (10.5 YPT) have already proven to have a strong rapport with Eleby. The 215-pound Eleby isn’t much of a runner (34 rushes, 38 yards) but he’s effective down near the goal line when called upon, having scored four times last season. Eleby’s passing production should be among the nation’s best, and some modest rushing numbers helps make him a QB2 target.
Eleby played in five games and started four as a freshman in 2018 in place of an injured Jon Wassink, then he was reshirted last year. Wassink is gone, so now Eleby is the unquestioned starter for the Broncos. With some nice pieces around him and talent that made him a well-regarded recruit, Eleby is lined up to succeed in 2020.
Eleby started four games as a freshman last season in place of an injured Jon Wassink, with 1,092 passing yards and a completion rate over 62 percent in five games where he attempted a pass. Wassink is the starter now that he's healthy, but he has missed time with significant injury in each of the past two seasons. Eleby's fantasy outlook is cloud for 2019 at this point, but he's got to be the early favorite to start under center for Western Michigan in 2020.
