James showed in his sophomore season that he could post solid yardage and efficiency even if he wasn't at the top of the depth chart. The 5-foot-10 running back rushed 107 times for 759 yards and 11 touchdowns in the 2023 season, tying the rushing touchdowns of now Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Bucky Irving. As the supplementary help to Irving, James showed his ability to produce on the ground, averaging 7.1 yards per carry. As the sole running back for the Ducks, James is primed to have a breakout year and slot in as one of the top running backs in now the Big Ten as long as he can stay healthy and keep the run game going concurrently with Oregon's explosive passing attack. Gets over 100 rushing yards again
James accrued 23 carries for 115 yards and one touchdown and caught one of two targets for six yards during Saturday's 32-31 win over Ohio State.
ANALYSIS
James rushed for over 100 yards for the fourth time in the last five games. The only time when he did not came in an early blowout win versus Oregon State in which the junior running back logged just 12 carries. James also scored his sixth rushing touchdown of the season with a three-yard score in the first quarter. After a choppy start to the season, Oregon's rushing game has found its footing thanks to some improved blocking upfront. This has greatly opened things up for James, even though he logged just two explosive rushes with rushes of 12 or more yards versus the Buckeyes. No matter what, James' physical running style combined with a healthy workload should make him a productive rusher moving forward.
