Forced to retire from football
Larkin is retiring from football due to a diagnosis of cervical stenosis, Brett McMurphy of Stadium reports.
ANALYSIS
Northwestern's starting running back has been diagnosed with cervical stenosis, a disease that narrows the spinal canal in the neck area or upper part of the spine that places pressure on the spinal cord or the nerves in the neck. While not life-threatening, the disease will be enough to force Larkin away from the game. He ends his career with 849 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns in 16 games with the Wildcats and will most likely be replaced by John Moten in the backfield.

2018 Fantasy Outlook
Larkin spelled senior Justin Jackson in the backfield as a freshman last season, but he will have big shoes to fill in 2018 following the departure of the school's all-time leading rusher both in terms of yards (5,440) and touchdowns (41). Larkin was no slouch when he received his opportunity, rushing 84 times for 503 yards -- 5.99 yards per tote -- and five touchdowns as a freshman. He possesses both the elusiveness and a home run hitting ability out of the backfield to be effective for the Wildcats, but this will be the first time he's tested with the majority of the reps for Northwestern. The Wildcats also have a talented cast of John Moten IV, Jesse Brown and incoming freshman Isaiah Bowser ready to contribute when he requires a breather, though Jackson should remain the heavy favorite to lead the backfield committee. Northwestern also returns its entire offensive line from a season ago, including four seniors, to boost Larkin in his first year as the lead horse.
