Retiring from football
TCU head coach Gary Patterson announced Tuesday that Spielman (undisclosed) has decided to retire from football, Drew Davison of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Spielman had been out the last few weeks for an unspecified reason, and based on Patterson's comments, the wideout may have been mulling his future in football. Before he transferred to TCU in the summer of 2020, Spielman took some time away from the game during spring practices at Nebraska. After turning in three 800-plus yard campaigns with the Cornhuskers from 2017 through 2019, Spielman never latched on to a major role within the Horned Frogs' pass-catching corps. In his two seasons with the program, he recorded 13 receptions for 181 yards and two touchdowns on 15 targets while carrying seven times for 35 yards.

2019 Fantasy Outlook
Spielman didn’t experience a major breakout during his first season under coach Scott Frost as many believed, but he did a significant uptick in both receptions (66 from 55 in 2017) and receiving touchdowns (eight from two in 2017) despite playing one fewer game. With Stanley Morgan Jr. out of the picture in Lincoln, Spielman should be headed for a larger target share in 2019. Adrian Martinez heads into his second season under center, which likely portends to an improved offensive attack and, potentially, additional production for Spielman.
