ANALYSIS
Zeno was once again held out of Saturday's contest, marking his fifth consecutive missed game for the Blazers while dealing with a shoulder injury. The senior quarterback had struggled through the first four games of the season, throwing for 819 yards and six touchdowns to five interceptions, and though fellow signal-caller Jalen Kitna has had turnover issues in his time filling in, there could be a position controversy when and if Zeno is able to return this season. Zeno's next opportunity to make his return will come when the Blazers travel to face Memphis this coming Saturday.

Zeno transferred in from Baylor for the 2022 season, but he could not unseat Dylan Hopkins as the starting quarterback for UAB. Now, though, Hopkins has graduated, and the job is Zeno’s. Finally, he will get a chance to be a starting quarterback in college football, and for a Blazers team that is now in the AAC. That being said, don’t expect a big role for Zeno. This is a run-first team. Two players had over 165 carries for UAB in 2022. Hopkins attempted 215 passes and threw for 1,913 yards. Now, DeWayne McBride has moved on to the NFL, so maybe the Blazers will run the ball less without their top back. Or, perhaps, it will simply be “next man up” and Zeno will be left to manage the game like Hopkins did. Until the Blazers show they are fundamentally changing their offense, don’t buy into any of their quarterbacks, and that includes Zeno.
