2021 Fantasy Outlook
Holmberg heads into August as the presumptive starting quarterback after turnover-prone Chase Brice transferred to Appalachian State during the offseason. Holmberg has been in Durham for three seasons, but has yet to start a game for the Blue Devils, attempting 25 passes last season while missing 2019 due to injury and not attempting a pass in 2018. This figures to be one of the worst and most inconsistent passing attacks in the ACC if not the nation given Holmberg’s lack of experience and pedigree, paired with a similar lack of explosiveness at wide receiver. If there’s any potential for upside at all, it could come from Holmberg’s legs. Head coach David Cutcliffe has noted both Holmberg and backup Luca Diamont can run a 4.5 40-yard dash, and we’ve seen Duke use it’s quarterbacks often in the run game. Diamont probably offers the most upside, and figures to push Holmberg throughout the year, but this passing attack is unlikely worth investing in.
