As he approaches his final year of eligibility, Gabriel has the chance to elevate his play under center twofold as he joins a recently successful Oregon squad. Gabriel finished the 2023 season with Oklahoma, passing for 3,660 yards, 30 touchdowns, and six interceptions. The 5-foot-11 field general will jump into an offense under Dan Lanning that enabled Bo Nix to go from 11 passing touchdowns in his sophomore season with Auburn to then 29 touchdowns in his junior year and 45 touchdowns, along with being a Heisman finalist by the time he was a senior. Gabriel will follow a similar path as he transfers to Oregon later in his college football career, and he'll have ample resources to aid his success. With wide receiver Tez Johnson returning, who eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards last season, and Texas A&M transfer Evan Stewart likely jumping into the role of NFL-bound wide receiver Troy Franklin, Gabriel will have all he'll need to lead a successful year, if not a Heisman-level campaign. Ends career with solid showing
Gabriel completed 29 of 41 passes for 299 yards and two touchdowns during the 41-21 Rose Bowl defeat to Ohio State. He also had 12 rushes for a loss of 43 yards.

Gabriel and the Ducks fell behind in the contest, so much of his stat accumulation came when the contest was well in favor of the Buckeyes. That doesn't take away from a sensational season Gabriel posted with the Ducks, racking up a career-best 3,857 passing yards and a 30:6 TD:INT ratio, matching his ratio on the dot from his 12 games with Oklahoma last season. He also added 149 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on 75 carries. The senior finishes his college career with 18,772 passing yards and 155 passing touchdowns, matching Case Keenum's record for most passing touchdowns in a college career.

Gabriel will be the unquestioned starter during the 2023 season and when you consider that Oklahoma averaged 37 points per game and 510 yards per game in his 11 starts, it makes sense why. In the two games where he did not start, the Sooners averaged just 12 points per game and 275 yards per game, a huge drop off in production. The Big 12’s Newcomer of the Year was sensational last season with 25 passing scores and six rushing touchdowns. On the flip side, Gabriel did lose his top targets in Marvin Mims and Brayden Willis, so he will need to rely on Jalil Farooq making a leap or getting contributions from Michigan transfer Andrel Anthony at wide receiver. The Sooners are stacked at running back and the offensive line, so this should be a balanced offense in 2023. Gabriel has the upside to be the best quarterback in the conference and potentially one of the best in the nation.
