Florida State: Season Over For Chris Thompson (Knee)
October 22, 2012
Thompson (ACL) will miss the rest of the season, Seminoles.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Thompson is among the nation's most unlucky players when it comes to injury, as he already made a remarkable comeback from a broken back to turn himself into a dominant runner this year. His absence makes James Wilder a potentially strong fantasy option, though Devonta Freeman could simply pick up Thompson's previous role.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2012
2011
2010
Thompson had an excellent 2010 season, running for 846 yards (6.4 YPC) and six touchdowns while adding 19 catches for 155 yards and another touchdown, but injury derailed his 2011 season. He returns in 2012 facing stiff competition for carries from Devonta Freeman and Mario Pender, two high-ranking recent recruits. He probably isn't worth more than a late pick in ACC-only leagues.
Thompson is Florida State's top returning rusher, but he still faces a great deal of competition for carries this year. Besides Ty Jones and Jermaine Thomas, the Seminoles backfield might also include top recruits James Wilder Jr. and Devonta Freeman. There's a lot of talent to be had in the Florida State backfield, but not enough carries to make any one player a sound investment outside of ACC-only drafts.
Thompson is a scatback in the mold of former FSU star Warrick Dunn. Standing at only 5-8 and weighing 186 pounds, Thompson looks to benefit from a new coaching staff that is not sold on junior Jermaine Thomas as the surefire starter in the backfield. Thompson probably will not get enough touches to put up huge numbers, but should provide some big plays and touchdowns in what seems like the annual FSU running back committee.
